Reflection on my work

GM Foods Reflection

I'm proud of my work, because I tried my very best. As well as that, I added good information. In the beginning, I had no clue what so ever about Genetically Modified Foods. I learnt that there is such a thing as GM Foods, and what types of GM Foods there are. The last thing I learnt, was how GM Foods were made. (the science behind GM Foods.)

I think I could have added  more pictures. As well as that, I could have put more detail in my PowerPoint.

I am very proud of my work!!!

1.What is the science behind GM foods?

Technology now allows us to transfer genes between organisms. Genetically Modified Foods is a sophisticated version of a cut- and- paste cycle. Once the chosen gene is identified in the native organisms genome, it can then be cut out and transferred to the target plant. Then pasted into it's genome. Once the new gene has been introduced, the plant can be bred to create a new strain, that passes the gene from one generation to the next.

2. What foods are effected by this technology?

Top 10 GM F:
  •  Salmon- it is on our way to the dinner table (as we speak).
  •  Animal Feed- coming soon to our table, weather we want it or not.
  • Oils- U.S, India and China are the worlds largest producers, as a result it is hard to avoid GM foods.
  • Soybeans- Since 2004, 85% of soybeans grown on U.S soil have been genetically modified.
  • Golden Rice- it first helped people fight vitamin. A deficiency, which affected 250 million people world wide. Rice is one of the most common foods on earth.
  • Squash- squash is more prone than some crops to viral diseases.
  • Tomatoes- it became part of GMF to last longer, as they were the first foods to become genetically modified.
  • Corn- to kill insects.
  • Potatoes- Genetically modifying a potato boosts your immune system.
  • Sugar Beets- One of the latest GMF yet. It has been done to grow faster.

3. What are the problems with this technology?

The problem with genetically modified foods is that it creates super bugs and super weeds. It kills innocent bees, as well as butterflies. Farmers can't harvest seeds. It's illegal to accidentally grow GM foods.

4. What action has been taken to try and prevent the technology developing?

Many actions have been taken, such as people working hard and starting strikes. People spend their spare time trying to prevent the GM foods from happening everywhere. Unfortunately, there has been no worldwide progress or change.

5.How can you find out information about these questions?
